Chambers Bay

The "Chambers Bay" trail now has it's own post.  For directions please refer to the Little Soda Lake post. This trail has it all...water features, beach access,  epic forests, sagebrush hills, stunning mountain views.  It does go all the way to Glimpse Lake, but we have not done that.  I know some hardy riders with a chain saw rode it and cleared it. (As of September 7, 2019)

(click on any photo for enlarged images.)

The old topo map shown below calls the trail "Summit Lake Pack Trail."  I have not been able to determine whether the small lake on the way is "Summit Lake" or it refers a lake further up in the Winds many, many miles away.  If anyone reading this post knows any more, let me know!

Close up of the track section north of the cabin.

Our Track on September 7, 2019.  About 10.5 miles total. 80% dirt/grass, 15% somewhat rocky (including alot of gravel), 5% quite rocky and steep. Ascent/Descent=1,380'. Several stream crossings.  There is a section just before reaching the cabin that has a steep drop off to one side and the trail is rocky. I wouldn't attempt if the ground/rocks are slippery after a rain. Our horses did it ok barefoot.

View of an un-named lake depending on which map you look at.   I am now calling it "Cabin Rock Lake" because of the rock in the middle of the far left side in the photo below.  The rock looks like a cabin.

A good part of the trail is awesome forest like this.

This is the "Chambers" cabin.  The trail to the beach goes right past here to the left.  Further to the left is the main trail, which bypasses the beach.  You can take either.  There are signs that say "Trail". The  cabin property is leased from the Forest Service, so use of the trails is allowed.

Trail to the beach and dock.

Access to the beach.  You can get horses to it if they're not afraid of the waves.

The lowest I have seen the lake in this area, May 18, 2020

Heading out on the double track that goes north from the beach.

After about 1.3 miles, this stunning view of Fremont Lake and the Wind River foothills.

Keep following the trail.  It eventually goes all the way to Glimpse Lake, but we turned back after 5.5 miles from the trailhead.

There are nice vistas of the lake and mountains.

Some of the trail is like this, but mostly it is grassy and soft dirt.

Basically perfect trails for barefoot horses.

There were many spectacular tall aspens.
